The catholic Development commission of Mzuzu Diocese has embarked on a project which intends to improve livelihoods people through sustainable production of vegetables and honey in Mzimba.

Speaking to Radio Tigabane in an interview Gift Luwe who is the Programs Manager for CADECOMsaid the project with support from Danish Church Aid is targeting 1,000 households in the area of Traditional Authority Mtwalo and Kampingo Sibande

According to Luwe theproject aims at increasing production of high quality vegetables and honey which will help beneficiaries to improve their living standards.

In this project we are targeting the vulnerable men, women, and youth who are near to markets areas of Mzuzu City,” Said Luwe.

Adding he said, “By the end of this project in December 2017, we expect to improve the lives of people on food security, income and reduce dependence on tobacco.

Acknowledging the development Right Rev John Alphonsus Ryan Bishop of Mzuzu Diocese who presided over and launched the project said the project will alleviate people from poverty and sustain their lives.

“Am happy that Cadecom has launched this project at first people were saying the church role is only to preach good news to the people and that development should only be done by government this project but will help the vulnerable groups to sustain their lives through farming”, Said the Bishop.

The project with support from Danish Church Aid will run up to December 2017with of over 40 million kwacha.
